Abstract
For better understanding of the conditions and phenomena of past ages we need to know the conditions and phenomena of the modern era that are available for our direct observation and study. Rocks, and especially the fossils of ancient organisms, which are contained there, are the main documents that reflect physical and geographical conditions of bygone eras.
